I’ve never thought of this before but it’s true that ‘every major step forward in my life so far has been inspired and encouraged by the mentors I’ve been fortunate enough to have’. Some have done so voluntarily and some not. Personal relationships always make a huge difference in anything minutely important.

I’ve learnt plenty doing many things in my life and would love to share them with whoever thinks they might benefit from it. In the process, I hope to learn back from you.

  • In 2006, I started a newsletter called The Spirit to share news and views from across my alma-mater.
  • I’m a PhD student in organic chemistry at Oxford University.
  • I’ve co-founded Oxford Ideas which launched Relaxing Stories, an iPhone app, to bring a well-known relaxation therapy on an easy to use platform.
  • I’ve interned at the Royal Society of Chemistry as a science writer.
  • I’ve co-founded Oxford Transhumanists, a student group, for discussions on the future of science and technology and its impact on human beings.
  • I’ve blogged for Nature from the Lindau Nobel Laureates meeting in 2010.
  • I’m a contributor to the Critical Twenties, a community blog for Indian issues.
  • I was a polyphasic sleeper.
  • I’ve put myself on the slow-carb diet and lost 3 kg.

If you’d like to work together, you can write me a letter responding to the questions below. I’ll write back to all letters I receive in this way within two weeks no matter what. In response to the most exceptional letters, I’ll propose further correspondence—and in certain cases, an ongoing mentoring relationship.

  1. Tell me about yourself. How did you become who you are, and who do you want to become?
  2. What do you hope to gain from our mentoring relationship?
  3. What’s the best thing you’ve read, watched, or listened to lately?

Add links to any profiles or projects you’re proud of, and send it all to: rathi DOT akshat AT gmail DOT com. And as Diana Kimball says, let’s learn together.
